Blame Game

Devised by Rebecca Goh, Catherine Mieses, Jack Dillon, and Ismini Papaioannou

Man with curly hair and beard crouching down, assembling a tower of white foam blocks, with a paper cup on top, on a dark stage with brown leaves scattered around.

"Who is to blame for your local crisis?"

The Young Vic, 2023

Inspired by the Northern Irish comedy panel show series The Blame Game, this was a proposal to (re)locate conversations about environmental sustainability, and subvert existing hierarchies of visibility / agency in mainstream media. Talking heads sparred, opinions were platformed, reports filed, politicians beheaded, and the audience gets to choose the villain.

This R&D focused on interpreting the chat show format through an ecoscenographic lens, and different ways of reframing spectatorship in material performance.
